Mark
Aaron James and the Borrowed Souls are a group steeped in the tradition
of classic rock mixed with new alternative/pop sensibilities, borrowing
heavily from Billy Joel, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, James Taylor,
Joe Cocker and the Beatles, along with several contemporary bands
like Del Amitri, Counting Crows, Mathew Sweet and The Wallflowers.
The group is headed by soulful singer/ songwriter Mark Aaron
James. Mark is from Cocoa Beach, FL and is a graduate of Vanderbilt
University. He has been singing in assorted bands, and as a solo
act, throughout the Southeastern United States. James is 28 years
old. Although he has been known to dabble on both the keyboards
and the saxophone, Mark mainly sticks to his acoustic guitar and
his voice. The rest of the instrumentation is left in the hands
of a talented collection of musicians with an impressive collective
resume.
The group's guitar sound comes from Eric Halbig. A native Californian,
Eric was brought to the bands attention through his stellar studio
reputation, and his work on guitar and mandolin with Jonny Lee.
His mastering of the pentatonic scale has garnered him three published
books and two feature articles in Guitar Player magazine.
The Borrowed Soul's unique and solid percussion is provided by
David Burch. A graduate of the University of Tennessee's studio
and jazz programs, David has honed his chops with contemporary
Christian recording artist Erin O'Donnell, and the college alternative
band, Holland. His sound stands out among rock drummers due to
his creative use of the African Djembe, providing a funk essence
to his rock and jazz skills.
And finally, rounding out the rhythm section is bass player Aaron
Hatmaker. Aaron is a 20 yr-old from Ohio. He came to Nashville
as a music student at Belmont University, and earned the position
as bass tech for one of the top bass players in the country, Dave
Pomroy. His work with Mark, and his own Jazz combo, are gaining
him a solid reputation as a new gifted player on the Nashville
scene.
As you can see the Borrowed Souls were "borrowed"
from some of the best rock and blues bands in the "Music City."
When they get together great music and a satisfied crowd are soon
to follow. |
